Species Account:

Ardeadoris scottjohnsoni is considered to be very rare on Okinawa as I have seen and collected only the single featured individual over a period of many years of diving here. Both of the described species of Ardeadoris are found on Okinawa. Besides the featured and rare A. scottjohnsoni, A. egretta is found here as well. The white body, gills and rhinophores as well as the orange emarginated mantle of egretta readily separate the two animals.

The featured animal was collected during a moderate low tide SCUBA excursion from beneath a large cement pier, amid strewn oyster shell rubble and fine silty-sand.
