Species Account:

Gymnodoris ceylonica is a rare gymnodorid on Okinawa. I have seen and collected only a single individual over a period of more than twenty years of diving here. The animal was found coiled up within the concave surface of an otherwise unoccupied pectin shell during a daytime dive. The collecting habitat was one of mixed sand/strewn coral rubble amid spur and groove formations. The only other gymnodorid found on Okinawa which is similar in appearance to this distinctive animal is G. rubropapillosa which is seasonally quite common at Tengan Pier.
